  • Well, THAT was a Party!

We hope your family had a chance to participate and enjoy the Around the World Celebration on Saturday! There were lots of smiles and excited voices all around the school, all day long.

To start to say Thank You to all the people who pitched in and made this day possible is impossible. But a special shout out to Kimberly Dillard for drawing on some super-human strength to coordinate this event beautifully. In addition to Kimberly, Dee Witmer and Diane Bisbee were *again* the Queens of the Games, Jeanine Gravette brought together an exceptional Silent Auction, Kate Graves and Jessica Mylonos decorated the entire school to the nines, Lee Ann Lovgren and Jenny Vanier-Walter made sure we had enough food (and enough kinds of food!) to make everybody happy. Mary Hulbert worked her Raffle magic and had everyone wanting to win. Erin Schultz stepped up and took the idea of International Rooms and Multi-Cultural celebration to a whole new level. Brenda Leong, Wendy Siamon and Desiree Gonzalez were the go to team - if you needed anything, just Go To them and they'd make it possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

To each and every teacher who gave up their Saturday and came to volunteer at the Around the World Festival THANK YOU!

To the many volunteers who offered to help ahead of time or offered their services on Friday and Saturday, THANK YOU!

To the many talented Lake Anne community members and others who shared their beautiful gifts with us either in the International rooms or at the Cultural Performances later in the day, Wow! And THANK YOU!

Wed, Thur and Friday (Oct 29, 30, 31)Sally Foster Delivery and Pick Up

The Sally Foster Orders will be delivered to Lake Anne sometime on October 29. A few volunteers will be needed to help unload the truck and organize the boxes (there is an easy -to-follow system!). Please conact Jenny Vanier-Walter (jennyavw@yahoo.com) at 703-430-6036 if you have some flexible time on Wednesday.

Then the orders can be picked up by families in the cafeteria either Thursday before school (8:00 am to 8:30 am) and after school (2:45 pm to 3:30 pm.) or Friday before school (8:00 am to 8:30 am) and after school(2:45 pm to 3:30 pm.).

If you cannot possibly pick up your order at those times, please contact Jenny (jennyavw@yahoo.com) at 703-430-6036 to arrange an alternate pickup.

Jenny could also use some volunteer help with the pick up times - if you are free Thursday or Friday, before or after school, please contact Jenny and volunteer to help. If you cannot make those times, please email or call Jenny Vanier-Walter at JennyAVW@yahoo.com and . Also add something that I need volunteers to help with the delivery of the Sally Foster order. The delivery is on Wed. Oct. 29. (I don't know the time yet.) And we still are looking for volunteers to help with the pick up.

A Second Chance for Spirit Wear

Lake Anne is rockin' the new spirit wear!

So many people want the tye-dye t-shirts, Catherine Castrence has decided to place a second order. Look for order forms coming home via back-packs and order everybody a tye-dye t-shirt, long sleeves or short sleeves.

Be on the lookout in the coming weeks for another chance to make an order! If you have any questions, please contact Catherine Castrence (chadandcat@comcast.net) at 571-926-8500.

Just a reminder that November's GRACE Art Jam Session will be held this Wednesday, October 29 at 2pm in the Cafeteria. Beth Hoyos will give a presentation on Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.

We still have a number of classes that are without a docent and therefore will not receive GRACE Art at all this year unless someone or a group of people can adopt the class. If you are curious about GRACE Art or want to see first hand what it is all about, come to the jam session on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the cafeteria or contact Maureen Barrett (maureenhbarrett@yahoo.com) to ask questions and learn more.

Friday (October 31) - The Dads will Descend on Lake Anne!

It's not a horror film - it's a love story! Our Lake Anne Dad Squad (LADS) LOVE to come to Lake Anne and pitch in! And Friday October 31st is the day to do it!

Dads (and Dad-types) plan on joining your fellow fathers for a day filled with volunteer opportunities. Show your kids you aren't spooked by school!

There are many jobs to be done - some require a very short time, some are whole day projects. We'll use your valuable time well - and your child will see that you think the place they come each day is special.

Look for a special LADS flyer coming home - or contact John Smith (lads@willemsmith.com) to find out how you can be part of this extra special day.
