Community/PTA Reception before Back To School Night (Tuesday, September 25)

Please plan on joining us the hour before BTS night (from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.).

The Lake Anne PTA will have tables set up to learn about what is planned for this year at Lake Anne and how you can be involved. Community groups (such as scouting) will also be on hand to explain their programs. This time is also a great opportunity to meet people, put names to faces and find out who the parent's of your child's new BFF are!

Renew your PTA membership (we’ll be having a drawing for a $25 Target gift card – anyone who completes their PTA membership by the end of BTS night is eligible to win!), learn about GRACE Art and Reflections, talk to the officers about their plans for the year, and much more.

Participation is so important – we want you to be involved because it is good for you, good for your child and good for our school.

    Refreshments will be served.

All that Clipping is Adding Up! Box Tops and Campbell’s Labels

Keep clipping the Box Tops and Campbell’s labels for Lake Anne. Each one counts!

If you aren’t sure what to save, send the whole label in and we will trim the part we need.

We’ve banked over 4000 Campbell’s labels already – how high can we go?

Clipping counts! Send your Box Tops and Campbell’s labels to school in the Tuesday folder. (Keeping them in a ziplock bag makes it easy for you!)

Questions? Need more info? Please contact Carolyn Low (Carolyn@familytalk.org) at 703.476.5312.

Did you go Grocery Shopping this week?

Did your purchase help Lake Anne? It did if you've registered your grocery card with the area stores! If you haven't yet registered your card, do it before your next shopping trip so Lake Anne will benefit every time you shop!

    Safeway backtoschools.escrip.com/ Lake Anne’s ID # is 6525502

(At escrip you can also register your bank credit card and then shopping at many participating merchants also means benefits for Lake Anne.)

Giantwww.giant.com– First enter the first three letters of your last name and then you Bonus Card number (under the barcode on the back of the card). Then click the “continue to school listings” button. Then use the Express Method and enter 01979 (Lake Anne’s ID Number).

If for some reason you need to search for a school listing, do Not choose the Fairfax in the top of the search box. (That entry is for a Fairfax in Connecticut.) Rather, choose VA-Fairfax, then scroll down to Reston to find Lake Anne.

Harris Teeter: www.harristeeter.com/default.aspx? pageId=32 (School ID Code: 4999)

Please Contact Cheryl Green (ssi97@comcast.net) at 703.464.9395.

    First Lego League

First Lego League introduces children to science and technology.  The kids will engage in problem solving while using engineering concepts and robots using LEGO technology.

The Junior First Lego League is part of the after school programs for the first time this year. Junior First Lego League is open to any child in 1st or 2nd grade. Some third graders might also be eligible (those under the age of nine on January 1, 2007). The After School coordinators would like to offer an exclusively 3rd grade Junior First LEGO but need a coach or two to lead the group.

If you have a 3rd grader (who is under the age of nine on January 1, 2007) who would like to be involved in Junior First LEGO League please contact Cheryl Green (ssi97@aol.com) at 703.464.9395 so interest can be determined. More importantly, if you are inclined to coach a 3rd grade team, please also contact Cheryl Green (ssi97@comcast.net) at 703.464.9395

More coaches for the 1st and 2nd grade group are needed as well. If your child is participating in Junior First LEGO League, or if coaching just sounds like fun, please contact Cheryl Green (ssi97@comcast.net) at 703.464.9395

Training is provided and being a coach is a blast.

Virginia Choice Reader’s Book Club – Needs Parent Volunteers

If you enjoy reading and discussing books, this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!

Virginia Choice Reader's Book Club" is a book club for the upper grades (4th, 5th and 6th) reading from a selection of books called the "Virginia Reader's Choice" (extraordinary young adult fiction). They will meet weekly with small groups of students, around 5 or 6 per group, to discuss the book they have chosen. Discussion questions are provided.

Mrs. Swallow, Lake Anne’s librarian and devoted reader, would like to meet with any parent that are interested, next Friday, September 21st, at either 9:30 or 12:00, to over the details of the program and to give them the list of book choices. Reflections –

Reflections is a wonderful PTA sponsored creative arts program that all Lake Anne students are encouraged to participate in. All forms of creative expression are encouraged – dance, art, music, photography and more. This year’s theme is “”I can make a difference by…” Find a time to discuss the theme with your child and get them thinking about how they might express themselves. The official entry form and detailed instructions will be sent home soon.

Under the guidance of Cathy Cutrell and Cheri Parisi Emmert, this program is growing quickly at Lake Anne. They could use your help! You don’t need to be artistic yourself - help is needed with advertising/promotion, registrations, judging, the Recognition ceremony and the theme contest for next year. Please contact Cathy Cutrell (cathy.cutrell@usa.net) at XX if you’d like to help or if you have questions.
