Oct 12 (Friday) Reflections Theme Contest Deadline

The National PTA is looking for a new theme for the 2009-2010 Reflections Program. These great themes come from students just like ours

Please take a moment to talk about what your child feels would be a great theme for kids to express themselves about.

Have your child fill in the "Reflections Theme Search for 2009-2010" form, sign it , and turn it into your morning teacher by Friday, October 12th!

The teaching staff will vote on our top 3 and these will be sent to the Virginia PTA for consideration and then maybe onto the National PTA.

Forms may be found in the front office or on-line on the LAES website. Look at the Past Themes document on the LAES website to get ideas of what kids have submitted in the past as well as to avoid any duplicate entries.

We look forward to seeing your Theme ideas! Good luck LAES students!

Questions? Need more info? Please contact Cathy Cutrell (cathy.cutrell@usa.net) at 703-318-0506.

Lake Anne Fiesta 08Starting Now to Make It Great

    Did someone say "Spring Fiesta"?

Only weeks into the school year and the whispering in the halls calls for the Spring Fiesta.

The PTA is in desperate need for Chairs for the Spring Fiesta. We have co-chairs that will not be named until a counterpart is found. Please volunteer to be a Co- Chair for the Spring Fiesta and for the Silent Auction. You will not be doing it alone. I know what you're thinking, that someone else will step up. This is THE last and final call for boarding.

Please contact Jenny Vanier- Walter at volunteer@laespta.org or myself, Erin Schultz at pres@laespta.org to sign up or for more information this week.

We need to hear from you this week by Friday, October 12th.

We've also set up a Google Discussion Group to work through all the ideas and details for planning this year's Fiesta. The web address is: http://groups.google.com/group/LAES_Spring_Fi esta. Come visit, bookmark the page and join in!

Student Directory - Alert Us to Changes

The LAES Directory committee is working hard to prepare this year's Lake Anne Directory, a copy of which will be given to every PTA member.

The contact information in the Directory will come DIRECTLY from the LAES school records.

If you know that your name or contact information has changed or needs to be corrected (for instance, your name is Anna Magdelana, but you only respond to "Maggie") please send an email with the correct name and contact information to Kim Schauer (kimschauer @hotmail.com) by October 15, 2007.

Reflections - Participate in this Creative ContestDeadline is October 26

The Reflections program is an arts recognition program which encourages children to express their thoughts creatively about a given theme.

This year's theme is "I can make a difference by..." and the children may select from up to six different mediums to express themselves which include: Visual Arts, Literature, Musical Composition, Dance Choreography, Film/Video Production, and Photography. All submissions are due by Friday, October 26th.

For more information including Official Entry Form and Rules, please pick up the information in the front office or go online to the LAES website or the Lake Anne PTA website.

Under the guidance of Cathy Cutrell and Cheri Parisi Emmert, this program is growing quickly at Lake Anne. They could use your help! You don't need to be artistic yourself - help is needed with advertising/promotion, registrations, judging, the Recognition ceremony and the theme contest for next year. Please contact Cathy Cutrell (cathy.cutrell@usa.net) at 703.318.0506 if you'd like to help or if you have questions about volunteering.

What has seven brains, thinks in wild and wonderful ways, eats a lot of cookiesand does crazy thingswith straws, tinker toys, string and tape?"

The answer is: An Odyssey of the Mind Team!!

If your child is a creative thinker and enjoys solving puzzles consider signing them up for Odyssey of the Mind.

Information on the program went out in the Tuesday folders on September 25th. If you are interested contact Jessie Clark at jessie@carefreeboats.com and fill out an interest form. Forms need to be turned in by October 15th so that we can begin solving our problems.

Also we are searching for coaches. It is one of the more rewarding things you will ever do. Experienced coaches are around to help so don't worry about not knowing what to do. Sign up today.

    Yearbook Cover Art Contest

Fresh Look for LAES PTA Website

Many thanks to John Barrett for finding time in his schedule (how??) to update the Lake Anne PTA website.

A very super slick new feature is a calendar that syncs up with the Fairfax County Public Schools calendar and can be used by all the PTA officers and committee chairs. At a glance, you can see what is going on every day!

Be sure to visit the website and see the changes - and again, a million thanks to John Barrett for giving so much of his time and expertise to this project!

    Clip, Clip, Clip - KaChing!

Keep clipping the Box Tops and Campbell's labels for Lake Anne. Each one counts!

If you aren't sure what to save, send the whole label in and we will trim the part we need. We've banked over 4000 Campbell's labels already - how high can we go?

Clipping counts! But you've got to send them in to school! Send your Box Tops and Campbell's labels to school in the Tuesday folder. (Keeping them in a ziplock bag makes it easy for you!)
