Skate Night was a blast! Thanks to everyone for coming out. We made a profit of $523.00 for our school, and at the same time we had a lot of fun!

Special thanks to Eyvonne Garris-Ayres, Michael Austin, Jacqueline Atkinson, Deborah Shprentz, America Johnson, Sophia Murrall, and Sara McAlpine for helping sell tickets and to Kari Cantwell and Miss Dail and the WLAS team for getting the word out! It was so easy with so much help and great organization from prior years.

Many thanks to Carla Watkins and Jenny Holah for organizing such a fun family event!

Did you miss this one? Not to worry, another Skate Night Spectacular is scheduled for Spring!

Urgent Need for After School Program Coordinator(s)

If no parents volunteer to coordinate After School programs (Mad Science, sports, drama, etc), there will be NO Winter/Spring session offered.

Please contact Robin Campbell campbell1016@yahoo.com. or Giannina Velez at 703.834.0710 (president@leaspta.org) IMMEDIATELY if you can help with the After School programs or would like to discuss what the job entails.

If your child enjoys participating in after school activities, seriously consider helping out. The only way these programs can continue is if a volunteer (or two!) steps up.

Mon, Tue, Wed (Nov 13-15) SCA Food Drive continues – through November 15

The SCA sponsored food drive continues. Students are welcome to bring canned or no-perishable foods to their afternoon teacher. All canned items collected will be going to the non-profit Reston/Herndon organization F.I.S.H. (Friendly Instant Sympathetic Help).

On your next trip to the grocery store or Costco, put a little extra in your cart to make the holiday season a little easier for a family in need.

If you have any questions, please contact the SCA Advisors, Ms. Kastner (Julie.kastner@fcps.edu) or Mr. Whiting (timothy.whiting@fcps.edu) at 703.326.3500.

Tue (Nov 14) – PTA Meeting Board meeting at 6:15 p.m.General Meeting with Parent Program 7:00 p.m.

November’s PTA Meeting Board meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. (all are welcome)

General Meeting with Parent Program begins at 7:00 p.m. (free child care is available.)

The guest speaker is Stephanie Fillman, the Heritage

Language Literacy Club Coordinator for Bailey's Crossroads Elementary

School, another FCPS Spanish Immersion School. She'll be talking

    about Relevant attributes of the Spanish Partial Immersion Program;

Specific enrichment opportunities; and Strategies to help with homework.

The agenda for the PTA meeting is available on the PTA Bulletin Board and at the Lake Anne PTA website, www.laespta.org.

Wed (Nov 15) PTA Sponsored Assembly

The Little Maids of History & Co. will entertain and educate during this month’s assembly, sponsored by the Lake Anne PTA. Bonnie Fairbanks brings history to life (and life to history) by wearing reproduction clothing and using first person interpretation to interact with the children. She also shares her mini-museum of props for the children to see and handle. She is a storyteller in the truest sense of the word and will transport our students back in time.

Ask your child what they liked best about this program. We’d love their feedback.

Thursday (Nov 16) – Thanksgiving Luncheon with Students

Parents are invited to have a special Thanksgiving luncheon with their children on Thursday November 16. Lake Anne welcomes families to share a traditional Thanksgiving lunch with their children during their child’s regular lunch time. It is important to pre-pay for your lunch, $3, by filling out the form sent home in the Tuesday folder or visiting the front office. Contact Kari Cantrell (kari.cantrell@fcps.edu) at 703.326.3500 for more information

Note from the LADS (Lake Anne Dad Squad)The L.A.D.S.  Blows The Doors Off Dad Volunteer Day Expectations

A resounding and hearty 'Thank You' is in order.   Over sixty (yup, that’s 60) Dads/GrandDads/Fatherfigures took part in the inaugural Dad Volunteer Day on Friday, November 3 rd.  That meant that over 70 kids were proudly beaming a "that's my Dad" smile that lasted the whole day (possibly into the weekend).   A bunch of other kids are wondering who the nice guy was helping them with spelling.

The newly-dubbed LADS (Lake Anne Dad Squad) proved to be multi-dimensional.  In addition to the in-class accomplishments, tech services carts were assembled (14 in all), plants were planted, shrubs were moved, leaves were raked, paper cutters were built, books were cleaned, art supplies were prepared, kids were unloaded and loaded, and so on.

The atmosphere was universally described, by participants young and old(er), as “fun”.  But bear in mind that a LAD is warmly welcome any day. We encourage you to contact your child's teacher to schedule a session in their class.  Simply send them an e-mail: their addresses are available on the Lake Anne website, www.fcps.edu/LakeAnneES/

Indeed, to the teachers and staff at Lake Anne, the LADS wishes to express their thanks for their warm embrace of this terrific day.  We look forward to the next occasion to do it all again.  For comments, suggestions and questions, e-mail LADS@willemsmith.com or call John Smith (703 727 3910) or Marco Rando (703-437-8355).

    Reflections

Thank you to all the LAES students who participated in the PTA’s Reflections Program this year.  This year’s theme was “My Favorite Place” and we received 31 beautiful, artistic, and creative submissions.  We also received 9 submissions for the 2008-2009 Reflections Theme Contest.

Congratulations and a big “thank you” to all our students who shared their thoughts with us.  We will include the names of our participants and the results of our Theme Contest in this month’s PTA Newsletter so stay tuned.

    Fiesta Time! – March 24, 2007

Lake Anne’s Fiesta is an annual event – a fun fair, silent auction, cake walk, party extravaganza! And this year’s Fiesta will be bigger and better to celebrate Lake Anne’s 40th anniversary.

As you might imagine, this event takes much planning and the participation of all Lake Anne families to be a success. Teams are being formed now to divide up the tasks and make volunteering fun and manageable for everyone.

Please contact Giannina Velez at 703.834.0710 (president@leaspta.org) to find out how you can help – and watch this space weekly for updates and more!

    Yearbook Candids Photos Wanted!

We want fill the yearbook with candid pictures of our Lake Anne students doing all the wonderful things that they do each day.  To do so, we need parents, teachers, students, and volunteers--anyone with access to a digital camera--to take pictures and send them to us.  (For classroom pictures, please get permission from the teacher before taking photographs.)

Email your high quality .jpg files to LAESyearbook@verizon.net.  Please do not use an email setting when sending these photographs.  For us to consider a photograph, you must provide the names and grades of the students pictured.  If the photographs depict a specific classroom, event, or activity, that information would also be very helpful.  We only have a few months to prepare these pages, so please start snapping!

If you have any questions, send an email to Ann Confer at LAESyearbook@verizon.net e or to Lee Ann Lovgren, the yearbook chair, at lalovgren@msn.com.  Thank you in advance for all your photographs!
