  • This Week at Lake Anne February 26 – March 4

Wondering about a snow day tomorrow –or a delayed start? There are several ways to get up-to-the-minute information.

Visit the FCPS Website – Emergency Announcements.

If school is starting on time, there will be no emergency announcement made.

If school is cancelled or delayed, you’ll read it here.

The recording on the FCPS Hot Line [800-839-FCPS(3277)] will also have any weather –related.

Cable Channel 21 will run a “crawl” on the bottom of the screen if there are any delays or cancellations.

And as always, if you subscribe to Keep In Touch, you’ll receive an email announcement from the school system.

Please remember, if school is delayed two hours tomorrow, the students will be dismissed at the regular Tues – Friday time (2:55), not the early Monday time.

And before we forget, thank you to all the families who came to the Spirit Night at McDonald’s last week! Thanks to the Wiehle McDonald’s for hosting such a fun evening – and thanks to Ha Brock for coordinating another successful Restaurant Night.

Sat (March 3) Odyssey of the Mind competition (Falls Church High School)

On Saturday March 3rd, four LAES teams will compete in the Odyssey of the Mind Regional Championships at Falls Church High School.  Our teams have been working hard since last October to creatively solve problems, build sets, design costumes and develop scripts for problems provided by the Odyssey of the Mind International organization.  Odyssey of the Mind is a team activity where students work together within age defined divisions to come up with creative solutions to problems and then perform their solution with hundreds of other teams.

    Fiesta Time! – March 24, 2007

Lake Anne’s Fiesta is an annual event – a fun fair, silent auction, cake walk, party extravaganza! And this year’s Fiesta will be bigger and better to celebrate Lake Anne’s 40th anniversary.

Volunteers are needed. Please don’t assume (or hope!) someone else will do it. Please say YES when your room parent asks for help – or better yet, offer to help now, before they ask!

Please make a donation to the class theme baskets and/or the Silent Auction. The Silent Auction team can certainly use some additional donations of time, talents, services or items.

Please contact Giannina Velez at 703.834.0710 (president@laespta.org) for more information about the Lake Anne Fiesta – and she’ll help you figure out how you can help!

    Lake Anne Fiesta – March 24, 2007

Capture a Memory - Place Your Yearbook Order!

The 2006-2007 yearbook will be packed full of the best collection of photographs representing the school year: the best candids, group photos, and individual portraits of all students, faculty, and pictures of all your special friends having fun while they learn.

Yearbooks are $21 – checks should be made payable to LAES PTA.

ORDER NOW – YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED!

Any questions? Please contact Lee Ann Lovgren (lalovgren@msn.com) at 703.437.9966

    Box Tops and Campbell’s Labels

A bowl of soup sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? While it is heating up, peel off the label, tuck it into a ziplock bag and then send them to school in the Tuesday folder. It is just that simple to raise money for Lake Anne! If every family had one can of soup this week and next – and sent the labels in – we’d have over a 1000 labels! A very significant number!

Do you need more information? Want to help trim and count? For more info, please contact Chris Keefer (thekeefers@sprintmail.com) at 703.444.2888.

    Original Works

The PTA is pleased to bring the Original Works program back to LAES!This month, under the instruction and guidance of Lake Anne’s talented art teachers, each LAES student will create an original artwork that will be sent to the Original Works company to be professionally reproduced for use on a variety of products.Just before Spring Break, you will receive in your child’s backpack his or her original artwork along with a product catalog, price list and order form. As a courtesy, Original Works is also sending a large magnet produced from each child’s original work. You may purchase this magnet for $5.00 or return it to school if you don't wish to keep it. You will also have the opportunity to order any of a number of products such as note cards, t-shirts, key chains, luggage tags, ceramic mugs, tiles, matted prints, calendars and more, all featuring your child’s original art and all of which would make great gifts or keepsakes. Please note that this program has a quick turnaround time. Order forms and payments will be due back at the school one week after you receive your child's packet, no later than March 30th. The finished products will be delivered to the school by May 2nd, in time for Mothers' Day and year-end appreciation gift giving. These are fun products to give or to keep, and every order will help support both the PTA and the art department.
