This Week at Lake Anne March 12 – March 18Mon (Mar 12) Chick-Fil-A Spirit NightLake Anne families love Chick-Fil-A (across from Target on Sunset Hills Drive) and we love spirit night. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the generous folks at Chick-Fil-A will donate a percentage of all proceeds to Lake Anne. The food is good, the company is great –and have you tried their milk shakes!? Oh my! If you have ballet, karate, scouts, swimming or something else scheduled, use the drive through! Don’t cook – Let’s meet at Chick-Fil-A! Tues (Mar 13) CARE Celebration (Cafeteria 8:45 a.m.) Students from each class who best represented “Respect” one of the Character Pillars this past quarter will be recognized. Congratulations! Fiesta Time! – March 24, 2007Lake Anne’s Fiesta is an annual event – a fun fair, silent auction, cake walk, party extravaganza! And this year’s Fiesta will be bigger and better to celebrate Lake Anne’s 40th anniversary. We’re really not sure how to get the word out any more clearly. We need help. We need volunteers. We need donations for class theme baskets. We need you to spread the word to family, friends, neighbors, teammates. Volunteers are needed. Please don’t assume (or hope!) someone else will do it. Please say YES when your room parent asks for help – or better yet, offer to help now, before they ask! If you would like to volunteer, please contact Ha Brock at (lakeannefiesta@yahoo.com) at 703.793.0112 as soon as possible. She’ll be delighted to talk with you . Please make a donation to the class theme baskets. Every morning class is creating a theme basket. Talk to your room parent, morning teacher or Candy Glozer (candy50@comcast.net) at 703.471.8641 to find out more. Please contact Giannina Velez at 703.834.0710 (president@laespta.org) for more information about the Lake Anne Fiesta – and she’ll help you figure out how you can help! Lake Anne Fiesta – March 24, 2007 Special Speaker at PTA Parent Program on March 20 The PTA Parent Program on March 20, 2007 will begin at 7 p.m. and features a very special guest speaker. Sharon Weiss is a behavioral consultant, nationally known, whose areas of expertise include parent and staff training in behavior management and crisis intervention. We are very fortunate to be able to welcome her to Lake Anne as our Parent Program speaker this month. Ms.Weiss is known for her practical ideas presented with great humor. She will share some wonderful techniques for confronting everyday issues as well as help for more challenging situations. Her tools have allowed many parents to feel more confident, empowering them to respond to difficult behavior with calm. Sharon Weiss is the kind of speaker you bring your friends along with you to hear. You’ll want to hear her approach to peaceful households – and chaos reduction. And maybe you’ll be able to prepare yourself for any bumps that may be on the parenting road ahead. So, bring a friend to the Parent Program on Tuesday March 20 at 7 p.m . in the Lake Anne Library. This will be time well spent. For more information, please contact Mary Smith (mfrsmith@gmail.com) at 703.757.7537 Cake Baking – Cake Decorating – Cake WalkingCake Walking The Cake Walk is a classic carnival game with a sweet prize! Cakes (and tins of brownies or cookies) are donated by Lake Anne bakers (could this be you?). To play the game, you “walk” to music on a circle of numbered stops – when the music stops, a random number is called. If you are lucky enough to be standing on that number, your prize is your choice of a decorated cake (or tin of other baked yummies!). Sound like fun? It really is – but the only way this game works is if lots and lots of cakes (brownies and cookies!) are donated. Can we count on you? Do you have a favorite cake recipe? Maybe the one your children love for birthdays? Or something you saw recently in a magazine, that you’d like to try? Cake Decorating A cake decorating contest is also held each year. If you have a way with frosting and want to enter the cake decorating contest, here are the details: - There are three decorating categories:
School Spirit/40th Anniversary Spring Fiesta Most Original - If you would like your cake to be included in the cake decorating contest, your finished cake must be dropped off at Lake Anne by 8:30 a.m. on Friday March 23rd.
- All bakers entered in the cake decorating contest will receive 2 FREE Game tickets.
- The cake judging will take place at school on Friday and the winners will be notified (and announced at the Fiesta). The winning cakes in each category will be raffled during the Fiesta on March 24th.
Cake Baking But you do not have to enter the cake decorating contest to bake for the cake walk. If your idea of decorating is a healthy shake of sprinkles, we still want your cake for the cake walk! Please bring your cake to the Lake Anne before the Fiesta begins, either on March 23rd (anytime between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.) or early on March 24th. Please note there is no storage for items that require refrigeration. Cakes should be in a disposable, covered plate or tin. Cookies and brownies should be separated into one dozens per disposable container. Containers cannot be returned. Also – please label your item and indicate whether your baked goods contain nuts or peanut butter. Thank you all in advance for the donated GOODIES!
