This Week at Lake Anne April 16 – April 22Lots of Lake Anne families have stars in their eyes and their eyes on the skies after a great evening at Observatory Park. Thank you once again to the Analemma Society for sharing their expertise and telescopes with us! Special thanks to Robert Anderson and Mary Blessing for suggesting such a great family event! Lots and lots going on this week – capped off with Skate Night at SkateQuest. A DJ will play music to skate by – another family fun activity! Have a great week! April 16 (Monday) –Kindergarten Open House and Registration If your child – or a neighbor or friend’s child – will be five years old on or before September 30, 2007, please attend this open house/registration event. Mrs. Hajj will introduce teachers and staff members and give a brief presentation about what to expect next fall, and children will be invited to visit a kindergarten classroom. For more information, call the school at 703.326.3500. April 17 (Tuesday) PTA Meeting - with special guests! The PTA Board will meet at 6:15 p.m– all are welcome. The General meeting begins at 7 p.m Special Guests include Virginia Delegate Ken Plum and Virginia State Senator Janet Howell, who will make a presentation to the Lake Anne community. Also that evening, the 4th and 5th grade Odyssey of the Mind Team will give us a peek at their prize-winning performance as they prepare for the State Finals. Finally, the First LEGO League Lake Anne Sea Monsters will demonstrate their robotics run for the PTA members. Plenty of great reasons to come to the PTA meeting on April 17th. As always, child care is available. April 18, 19 20 (Wed, Thu, Fri) Skate Night Tickets on Sale After SchoolTickets for Skate Night wlil be on sale after school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Just $7 for admission and skate rental – and there will be a DJ providing tunes to skate by! Stop by and get your tickets ahead of time – and save! April 19 (Thursday) Science Night – 6:30 p.m.You will see just how fun Science can be when you join us at Science Night at Lake Anne. Displays and demonstrations will appeal to all grade level students and their parents. Don’t miss this exciting “experimental” evening! Contact the front office for more details – 703.326.3500. April 20 –Reflections Recognition Ceremony and Quarterly Celebration Ceremony 8:45 a.m. GymThe Quarterly Celebration for Grades 4- 6 will be held at 8:45 a.m. in the gym. In addition to the awards presented at this ceremony to the upper grades, participants in the PTA Reflections Fine Arts program will also be recognized for their submissions. Bring your camera! The Reflections masterpieces will be displayed along the windows of the main hallway at LAES (across from the front office) so please take some time to view the colorful artwork and stunning photography as well as read the wonderful literary and music composition submissions. April 21 (Saturday) Skate Night at Skate Quest RestonSpring Skate Night – with a DJ! Come to Skate Quest Reston and spend 2 hours skating with your friends. Lake Anne and Terraset will have the rink to themselves for that block of time. Lots of fun for all ages! Great family night out! Every Day is Earth Day at Lake AnneWe are fortunate to have lots of little green space all around the school, including the newly restored inner courtyard. Erin Schulz is looking for some folks who would like to enhance some of these areas. Specifically she is looking for help during the day or after school to prepare a vegetable garden spot. If you would be interested digging in there, please contact her right away. Erin will also be looking for some weed warriors in many areas – and wonders if a family or group who might provide some plants for other bare areas.
